Illustrate and prepare the value chain for the Penedès wine industry with the aim of quantifying the economic value of the industry as an economic engine in the region, taking advantage of the drafting of the Penedès Partial Territorial Plan by technical services at the Secretary’s Office for the Urban and Regional Agenda of the Generalitat de Catalunya.

The economic characterisation of the cava and wine industry provides an economic dimension of the wine industry that goes far beyond a strict analysis of agriculture and the wine industry, forming a holistic dimension in economic terms that includes agriculture, the industrial and agro-industrial sector, the transport and logistics sector, the foreign market, the labour market and the tourist industry, which makes it one of the economic drivers, not only of the Penedès, but also of Catalonia.

The clear predominance of the rural image, and the high quality of the open spaces which, in the case of the southern half of l’Anoia and the whole of the Alt Penedès, are mainly used for wine-growing, are the natural support for the growing activity related to promotion and dissemination of wine and cava culture, and have placed the Enoturisme Penedès region in the top three of the league of best wine regions in Spain, currently generating an economic impact equivalent to more than 13 million euros per year in the Penedès region
